Our Ingredient Story | Sustainable Ingredients from New Zealand

To craft our award winning skincare and cosmetics, we source our ingredients from Kerikeri in the Far North of New Zealand to the remote East Cape and beyond. We are proud to work with some of New Zealand’s finest suppliers and producers to ensure our ingredients are fresh, packed with nutrients and responsibly sourced.

In our local Bay of Islands, we source Halloysite Clay from just down the road at beautiful Matauri Bay (if you haven’t been to Matuari Bay, we recommend you visit this stunning beach next time you’re in Kerikeri). Halloysite Clay is essential in our clay masks and is also a must-have ingredient in our Thickening Mascara. Sourcing the clay from this nearby quarry means we are supporting the local economy while also reducing our environmental footprint.  Another skin superfood comes from the far north region: Avocado Oil. The Far North region is known for its Avocado orchards and produces some of the finest Avocado Oil around. We use this nutrient rich oil for a wide range of our products, including our award winning Charcoal Clay Mask and our Pure Shades foundations.

For Mānuka Oil, we turn to the wild, windswept East Coast of New Zealand, home to a special variety of Mānuka trees. A beloved Living Nature hero ingredient, Mānuka Oil offers powerful antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. We have harnessed the power of Mānuka Oil in our products for over 30 years.

The Manuka tree also helps to provide us with another precious ingredient, Active Mānuka Honey Mānuka provides an abundance of delicate white flowers, from which bees collect nectar to produce a rich, amber honey. A staple in so many Living Nature products, we source sustainably farmed Mānuka Honey from beekeepers in the Far North of New Zealand.

These are only some of the remarkable New Zealand ingredients we source for our products. Others include hydrating Harakeke Flax Gel, antioxidant rich Tōtara Extract and cleansing Kūmarahou, the world’s most natural soap. We combine these native New Zealand botanicals with exotic ingredients including Rosehip Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Frankincense to deliver an effective yet divine range.

Sustainably sourced ingredients and responsible processes are a must at Living Nature. Not only are they required by our certification bodies, but they are part of our core values. We prioritise finding the finest ingredients to nourish and protect your skin, while also protecting the planet. When sourcing new ingredients, our dedicated team carefully investigates the ingredients origin, the processes it has undergone and the supplier to ensure it is sustainably sourced and of the highest quality. Our certification bodies require careful documentation to ensure our ingredients are as good as we say they are. These certification bodies include COSMOS and BDIH, some of the world’s most rigorous standards for naturalness and sustainability.
