How is Living Nature’s Kekebaby range different from other baby products?
The five Kekebaby products have been formulated to be extremely gentle on a young baby’s skin. The entire range is COSMOS approved, with many of the ingredients certified organic and sourced from the best natural sources. Baby’s skin are very tender and the range reflects the gentle nourishing and soothing properties this range delivers to these volatile skins. There are some ingredients, like our Manuka honey, that transcends across all Living Nature products.
I notice you use Calendula in all your Kekebaby products, why have you chosen this ingredient?
Living Nature’s certified organic Calendula oil is ideally suited for the delicate skin of a baby due to its gentle, soothing, nourishing and skin softening properties. It is also great to help calm any potential skin irritations that may occur from nappy rub or other common irritations.
How often can I apply your Kekebaby Barrier Balm and how thick should I apply it?
As often as required. It is recommended to apply at every nappy change. Ensure the skin is clean and dry after the nappy change then apply a very thin layer of the balm ensuring all the skin in the nappy area is covered.
Do you have any guidelines for massaging my baby and when is the best time, as I have never done this before?
Baby massage has been used for thousands of years to create that special bond between parents and babies and proven to have many positive benefits.
Timing: International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) recommend that the best time to massage your baby is when they are in the ‘quiet alert state’. Your baby will look calm, gaze at you, happy to lay still, have an open body posture, or reach out towards you. As you learn your baby’s cues you will know when it is the right time.
Always be guided by your baby; if they get irritated by the massage, or cry, stop immediately. You do not want baby to associate massage with any irritation or anything negative.
Process: Always start by simply resting your hands on the baby, either on their legs or their back to build security. In the first few weeks, you are only going to use a few slow and gentle strokes. More than this can cause over-stimulation of their senses. Warm a little Kekebaby Massage Oil in your hands and start with a few light strokes down the legs. You can slowly move to the baby’s arms, back and tummy, as they get used to your positive touch. (Avoid the feet and tummies of premature babies for at least two months).
For more details or to find a certified massage instructor in your area, the International Association of Infant Massage (http://www.iaim.net) has some wonderful resources.
Can I use the Kekebaby products on my baby’s face?
The Kekebaby range can be used on your entire baby’s body, however you will find that it is only necessary to use a very small amount of product on your baby’s face.
Is the Kekebaby range safe for newborns?
The Kekebaby range is suitable for 0 (newborns) and up. The neutral scent is also suitable and recommended for use by ‘Kekemamas in helping them bond with their babies. We encourage ‘Kekemamas’ to try out the Kekebaby range for themselves and experience the range. Spending time with baby and baby massage are great ways to bond with your child; for instance, scent, especially when there is much skin-to-skin contact in the early days of a baby’s life, is another great way to be able to bond with a newborn.
My baby appears to have a nut allergy – can I use Living Nature’s Kekebaby range?
No matter what the situation, Living Nature always recommends patch testing of all products prior to use. The range does contain coconut oil and some people who react to nut oils may also react to coconut oil and some may not – there is no way to tell, so the best way is to patch test a little product on the inner arm, cover the area with a plaster (apply twice daily) for 2 – 3 days. If no reaction is noted, then it is safe to use over the entire body.
My baby appears to be developing eczema – are Kekebaby products safe to use?
Kekebaby products are excellent for soothing irritant skin conditions, however it is always advisable to first seek a medical diagnosis and discuss treatment options with your doctor.
I have read that some baby products on the market are packaged in plastic containing phthalates, which can be harmful on babies’ delicate systems. Does your packaging contain phthalates?
Phthalates are chemical plasticizers that are not chemically bound to plastics they’re added to, and therefore release into the product contained within the packaging. Studies on the absorption via the skin, through the use of baby skincare products, indicate a potential to negatively impact gestational age and birth weight, fertility (lower sperm production), and anatomical abnormalities related to the male genitalia. Studies have also shown the increased risk of allergic diseases including asthma and eczema. Studies are now investigating their influence on timing of puberty and the risk of childhood obesity.
All packaging used by Living Nature comprises 15% calcium carbonate (chalk), and are phthalate-free.
My baby has cradle cap, can any of your baby products help?
Cradle cap is a condition caused by the over production of sebum or oil on top of a baby’s head, creating crusty areas of yellowish or brownish scaly patches. This condition does not irritate the baby, however Kekebaby Massage Oil can be beneficial gently massaged onto cradle cap to help loosen the skin flakes. The oil can also be applied to the cradle cap area for 15 minutes to soften it, then gently brushed out with a soft brush or fine-tooth comb, gently removing the scale, crusty flakes with it. The condition will usually disappear as the baby gets older.
Your products are very pricey. Why is this the case?
Living Nature’s Kekebaby range is certified organic by COSMOS, which is one of the most stringent regulatory bodies in the world when it comes to natural and organic skincare products. Having our Kekebaby skincare range certified under COSMOS includes the submission of in-depth information pertaining to our manufacturing processes (which all happen on-shore in New Zealand), our ingredients’ origins (only the best ingredients are sourced from the purest origins), down to our Production methods and packaging materials and processes.
Are Living Nature products safe for use during pregnancy and breast feeding?
Living Nature’s products are considered safe for use during pregnancy and breast feeding, however it is advisable to wipe your nipple area clean prior to breast feeding to avoid the fragrance components from other skincare products that you may have previously applied, which may potentially cause irritation to your baby. It is recommended to consult your doctor if you have a specific medical condition or if you have a known allergy to certain ingredients. We always advise carrying out patch testing prior to use of any new products.
I have sore and cracked nipples – will any of these products assist me for this problem?
Applying a tiny amount of Barrier Balm after each feed will assist in healing the area. Massage a little Massage Oil into the area after showering or bathing can also be extremely beneficial. Although not harmful, it is advisable to wet wipe the nipples prior to feeding to avoid baby taking in excess product.
My baby has swallowed some Kekebaby liquid. What shall I do?
Obviously you would want to try to avoid them swallowing any product, however using Living Nature’s ‘Kekebaby gives you the peace of mind to know that in the event that any product enters their mouth and may be swallowed, it won’t cause any problems, as Living Nature does not contain any harmful chemicals or toxic ingredients.
What are the differences in the Body and Hair Wash and the Bubble Bath?
It is only obvious that they would contain some similar ingredients, however the actual formulations are different and created to perform different functions. The Bubble Bath is formulated with a natural surfactant called Sodium Lauryl Glutamate, which originates from coconut and/or palm fruit, to create gentle bubbles as one fills the tub with warm water. This makes bath time a fun time for baby, while being gentle on the skin. The Body & Hair Wash is formulated to gently cleanse baby’s delicate skin without stripping or drying the skin in any way.
Can we wash our baby all over with just the Bubble Bath?
Yes, you can!
Has ‘Kekebaby been clinically trialled?
It is not common for any skincare products to be clinically trialled and is really only relevant for medicines that are taken internally. All Living Nature products have been assessed for safety by an external EU certified safety assessment company to ensure they are safe for topical use and as recommended.
What are a few of the main ‘nasty’ ingredients in other baby products that Living Nature leaves out?
Living Nature is proud to be part of the Environmental Working Group (EWG)’s Skin Deep® database, where we continually rank as one of the safest global brands with the lowest scores across all our products (1 being the lowest hazard). Similar to Living Nature, the Environmental Working Group is dedicated to protecting human health and the environment.
The philosophy of ‘no nasties’ applies to our baby range along with the rest of our skincare and cosmetics. There are plenty of chemicals out there that are dangerous for health and wellbeing; in compliance with the COSMOS Organic standards, we have banned petrochemicals, SLS, chromium-6, pesticides, phthalates and BPA from all our packaging as well as the contents of what goes into them.
